Twin Files

COULD I POSSIBLY BE MORE EXCITED? I THINK NOT.

Two of my favorite shows: The X-Files and Twin Peaks are being revived.

I'm not sure what my fascination with the 90s is…but I've apparently spent a lot of time watching a lot of episodes…all the episodes…of both of these fantastic shows.

David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson will be reprising their roles as Mulder and Scully in the X-Files in 2016, and the first photo from the reboot surfaced today. Of course, nobody covered the photo release better than Buzzfeed (below). This show is every Sci-Fi'ers dream - it's full of aliens, conspiracy, shady government, a strong female lead and plenty of sexual tension. Although Anderson and Duchovny had a little falling out at some point in their friendship, they seem as close as ever and have resumed their timeless relationship.

Although neither have admitted being romantically involved…we all know what's going on. They flirt mercilessly, gaze lovingly into one another's eyes, Gillian said that he knows her better than her husband and during an award acceptance, she kissed DUCHOVNY as her boyfriend watched. *ouch* *laughs giddily*

It's easy to fall into YouTube and emerge hours later from watching these two give speeches, interview one another, be interviewed and accept awards over the course of several years. They are the ultimate ship: Sculder. Without their ignitable chemistry, the show probably would have ended long ago. In fact, neither actors expected it to take off like it did.

So if you're new to X-files, you'd better get on it! You have about a year to watch all of the episodes (which are available on Netflix). AND don't forget to watch the movies. In my opinion, the first movie was MUCH BETTER than the second…but you need to see them both.

Now on to Twin Peaks. Not as many people know about this show as the X-Files but it is INCREDIBLE. If I had to pick some adjectives to describe Twin Peaks they would be: intriguing, quirky, familiar yet foreign, creepy, mysterious and beautiful.

(They really weren't kidding about that 25 year hiatus)

The writing and filming of this show is superb and each episode is reminiscent of a big screen production. The brilliant mind behind Twin Peaks is David Lynch. And for a while, he had the fandom in knots when it was up in the air whether or not he'd return for the reboot. Apparently he was dissatisfied with the amount of money he was being offered.

And while money is important…it would be CRIMINAL for him to walk away from the reboot. This show is his brainchild and without him…it would crumble faster than a stale cookie. The actors/actresses recognized this truth and pulled together to get Lynch to stay on for the project. So at this point, I believe that Lynch IS onboard and it better stay that way!

This show is also on Netflix and there are only two seasons, so it's easy to catch up on. The intriguing cinematic episodes pull the viewer in as they join the townspeople in wondering who killed homecoming queen Laura Palmer. As you watch the show, you will come to know the truth.

While season one was a smash hit, season two took some time to take off. But by the last episode of season two, you will be screaming at your screen for more. Luckily for us, the show is coming back in 2016 on Showtime. I guess I have to subscribe to Showtime now…haha. Yes, the show is that good.

I really want to know who Diane is and what happens to my beloved agent Dale Cooper…poor guy.

Anyway...

Get out there kid and start watching some X-Files and Twin Peaks. You won't regret it (unless you have no taste for good television).

(some people really really really like Twin Peaks)

Twin Peaks is a cult classic.

Fun Fact: Psych did a nod to Twin Peaks in their "Dual Spires" episode, which included many members of the original Twin Peaks cast.

(Duchovny guest starred on Twin Peaks…as cross-dressing DEA powerhouse Denis (Denise) Bryson)
