Things You May Need to Hear
There is a good chance that you need to hear at least one of these things at this moment or throughout the new year:
1. Stop looking at your anger or anxiety as a wall you keep running into. Instead, look closely at the bricks that make up the wall. Attack the wall one brick at a time and watch the wall disappear.
2. Fear is an illusion. When anxiety strikes, you have to lean into it to get out of it.
3. You are where you need to be. Even if you feel stuck, even if you hate it, even if you don't understand it - stop trying to escape, and start asking yourself what you can learn from this.
4. People who don't have a clear sense of their own identity latch on to others. They turn their insecurity into gossip, their anxiety into manipulation, their inferiority complex into sabotage. Remember that you are a separate organism and that you can choose to either let their toxins in, or keep them out. Don't take on others' baggage before unpacking your own. If you can, cut toxic relationships out of your world.
5. Your life is a theater. There's the cars zooming outside, the people waiting at the box office, the nosebleed section, the floor seats and the front row. Where you put the people in your life is up to you. Don't put people in the front row of your life's theatre if they haven't earned that seat.
6. It's okay to not know what you're doing.
7. You're not God. You're not in control of everything. You're not even in control of a lot of the things that happen in your very own life. There is so much freedom in religion, so much security in knowing that God is handling every tiny detail, so much worth in realizing that you are loved to such a degree that Jesus died for you. You are worth dying for. So stop devaluing yourself.
8. Throw your "I wish'es" out the window. And while it's open, throw out the "What if's" too.
9. Recognize your feelings, give them names/labels and think about why you feel the way you do. Do some self reflection - whether it's during the 30 minute of yoga you do or through journaling.
10. A shift in perspective can change almost any situation. From what vantage point are you viewing the things in your life? You can change your perspective even if you can't change the situation.
11. You are shifting, you are moldable, you are able to change. Things only get better when you set out to make them better. There are a lot of things you can't fix fast or take a pill for. Admit when you need help, find a good friend or therapist.
12. Stop choosing to feel most comfortable when you're at home, at work or around a certain group of people. The only "home base" you need is yourself. So no matter where you go, you are home.
13. The shit storm you've experienced up to this point is preparing you for something...maybe something great or just a greater version of yourself. Evolve.
14. Just breathe and find the humor in life.
