Cell Phones in School

Image
(Photo: Michael Schennum, The Arizona Republic) I was hot stuff in high school. I had a raspberry red RAZR flip phone that I could use to call my mom if I needed to. Did I know what texting was? Of course not, and neither did my classmates. We were in ninth grade, and back then, if you got caught with your cell phone, it got taken up. One day my mom was trying to call me while I was at lunch, but she miscalculated my schedule and called me during the last three minutes of English. My horrendously evil English teacher proceeded to take my phone and give it to the front office. It was a Friday, right before spring break, and to get it back, my mom would have to come down to the school and pay $15. Luckily I have the best mom ever, and I wouldn't have to go through spring break without my phone. These days, I actually work at the school I went to 9th grade at, and things have changed drastically - not just at that school, but throughout the district. Now, 6th grade and up...

Review of the Samsung Note III

Image
I was a die hard Apple fan. I still have a mac and an iPad, and I was hesitant to switch phones. But the new iOS 7 murdered my phone. I had no memory left, I had to delete a bunch of crap to download the upgrade, and then once I got the upgrade, it sucked the life out of my already crappy battery. My iPhone was under 2 years old and it was struggling just to get through the day. I wouldn't even touch it during the day, save to make a phone call at lunch, and it would be down 20% or more after lunch. I was charging it four times a day and constantly closing every running background task. It was a hot mess. So I got fed up and went to my phone provider, who handed me a Note III and told me that it has the best battery life of any phone out there. The battery itself is nearly as big as the iPhone - and I love it. It's functionality and capabilities are unmatched, and all of it is supported on a battery that won't poop out on you after checking Facebook once. One of...

Sneaky Apple

Apple has really pissed me off this time. Recently I jumped on the opportunity to replace my iPhone 4 with a 4S for just $25 at my local Radio Shack. It's a great deal, and not their fault that Apple has become a sneaky POPTART. Little did I know that Apple DISABLED the 3G and EDGE capabilities on the 4S meaning that you have no other choice than to use 4G which significantly drains your battery. Today I watched my phone go from 70% to 60% in like ten minutes. So naturally I went in search of turning on EDGE and low and behold it wasn't there! Apple is really forcing the consumer's hand and decreasing their options by forcing 4G upon them. This will probably also mean that the phone won't last as long (lifespan wise) which means you'll need to replace it sooner....hmm....I wonder if that's a coincidence? I doubt it. Anyway...I am sufficiently pissed off and daydreaming of the days when I had a Razr that needed charged like once every three days. You...
