Care

Growing up with a Dad who has cancer, I think I've always been hyper aware of how precious life is.

And it concerns me, how in this day and age, it seems like everyone is just out for themselves. Or just out for themselves and their family…when there are people all around us who are struggling, who are hungry, who are lonely.

Having experienced anxiety in my life, I try my best to tune in to those around me, even if I barely know them. You'd be surprised how many people are out there…just longing for a friend, just longing for a shoulder, for a truthful, reliable, beautiful soul to care about theirs.

At one point in college I was so lonely that I'd get out of the apartment and hang out at Starbucks, just so that I could be around other people. I had plenty of friends, but that doesn't mean that you can't still be lonely.

I have no idea where this post is coming from. I didn't necessarily set out to write what I've written…

I just feel that it's important to say that life can be over at any moment. We're not the infallible super humans that we sometimes feel we are. You may never reach your greatest dream, or be famous…but God knows and loves you, even if the entire world doesn't.

Don't just look out for you and your family. Find that lonely person at Starbucks and sit adjacent to them…start a conversation. Concern yourself with others…exude the traits in yourself that you seek in others; be reliable, honest, trustworthy, gracious, humble...

Maybe you're stuck in your job, in depression, in debt, maybe it'd be easiest to let life just swallow you whole. But one way that you can change your thoughts and feelings is to turn your focus on someone else.

I truly believe (as a Christian) that when we're done with our Earthly time, we'll be able to look out on the expanse that was our life and see everything. See whether we took life for granted. See if we helped someone when they needed it, or only helped ourselves. See every single person that we've ever touched.

With that in mind…when looking back at your own life once it's over...how many people do you think you'll see, that you've truly been there for, staring back at you?

…..

And if, unfortunately, you are one of the many people out there who feels lonely, or who feels that no one cares about you... know that I care. Even better…know that God cares.
