RAWK Holiday Show Houston

Image
Okay, so I learned a lot during the RAWK Holiday Show (Houston) , which is why I don't consider it a total loss, but it was kind of a disaster, haha. Here's why the holiday show wasn't my speed. 1. The location - the location was a little bit sketch. And when I say a little bit, I mean a lot. Granted, I'm one of those snooty museum types, but there are so many venues in Houston! I would have preferred to be a bit closer to the galleria, and a bit farther from…the hood? I even had a friend who wouldn't come because of the location. Oh well, I survived. 2. The selling of art - I sold so few pieces that it was borderline embarrassing. But the fact of the matter is - people weren't there to buy art! They came to look at the pretty things and leave. I had hoards of people oohing and awing at my table, just to talk to me for ten minutes and then walk away. I sold some stuff, but not enough to justify the amount of time and effort I put into the show. 3. The time...

Details: * $15 a ticket * Event is at Stereo Live (10 mins from downtown, 20 mins from Katy) * Event is December 11 from 7:30pm - 12:00am (stay as long or as little as you want) * Buy tickets here:  http://www.rawartists.org/lizrector * Cocktail attire (skirt/dress for the ladies, button-down shirt (tie) & dress pants for guys) Why you should go: + You're supporting local artists just by showing up + It's a great idea for a date night ("Hey honey, let's grab dinner at a fancy restaurant and then go check out Liz's art!") +You can buy holiday gifts for people! +My art is not pricey...

RAWK Holiday Art Show

Image
Do you live in Houston? Do you enjoy looking at beautiful artwork, having a fun date night with your honey bun, meeting new people, having fun and supporting the hopes and dreams of this artist right here? Than come to the RAWK Holiday show, featuring yours truly! Tickets are only $15, and you're in no way obligated to buy anything. You can just come and have a blast if you want! I'm thrilled that I was scouted through my Etsy shop and made a featured artist in this show. It's such a fantastic opportunity as an artist, and an awesome belated birthday gift for me. So if you're able to come, I'd be thrilled to see your smiling face there on December 11 at Stereo Live in Houston. You're support means so much to me, even simply buying a ticket if you're not able to come would help me out a ton. To buy tickets go here:  http://www.rawartists.org/lizrector Thank you to all my friends and family who have encouraged my artistic development through the year...

Memoriam

I wanted to write this for them Whoever it was That died on the sun-kissed highway Right outside my office In the morning, last Monday When coworkers stood at grand glass windows to see The crash, the reason why frustrated drivers wondered what was taking so long, what was going on Sitting in a glittering line of rumbling motionless cars that was hundreds of headaches long You could hear the roar of the air  being sliced by metal blades The familiar whine of multiple sirens Yelling above the rush hour parade And in the building Workers asked workers in hushed words as they arrived up the stairs "Did you see it? Have you heard?"

City Gem

Cut gems shimmer As they sit on the highway The red of their brakes lost in the light of day A steady hum comes from the roadway The pulsing bloodstream of the city Beats through concrete veins From far away it looks like heaven The golden sun catches clouds on fire with its rays And shines off the angular glass bodies of tall buildings That rise out of the soft earth Wet and glistening with the morning mist's sheen The grass and trees scream green A striking contrast to the sky so red and pink The world is a sliced geode Beautiful and translucent Warm humidity stretching it's wet fingers so far The hot breath of a new day, heaving on my car Just another cut gem Waiting to reach the city's heart

Life is full of ups and downs, these are the ups. Welcome to the family C.C. Man, it'll be hard to miss this bright blue on the road. While not enamored with the Ford dealer, the end result was worth it.  Because I have somehow managed to become a full-blown Trekkie...I used my art skills for the power of good and painted Spock (Zachary Quinto), and then the next day painted Kirk (Chris Pine). Both paintings were started and finished in the same weekend :D   Finding out that you're getting published never gets old. I can't believe that one of the poems I wrote for this very blog is ending up in a book :D Painting plates never gets old. Seeing the finished product is always worth the hours spent meticulously painting small details. I got this message literally today. I've never had a review make me feel so fantastic.  Man, I love to write What a great trip. IKEA can really put on some cool...

Houston Drivers

Image
--> The Idiot This is the person who attempts to get through a yellow light when traffic is stopped/backed up and they end up sitting in the intersection and costing you a green light. The Roid Rager This is the person (usually in a truck) who decides you’re not going fast enough and gets right up on your ass. My response? Go even slower. The Straight Shooter This is the driver who doesn’t look in their rearview to notice your right turn signal and just sits in the right lane waiting for the light, because they are going straight. This usually occurs when you are in a rush and are behind only one car who wants to go straight while you, and the long line behind you, have their right turn signals on. The Nervous Nancy This is the bozo who won’t turn on to the I-10 frontage road until it is nearly COMPLETELY clear of all cars (which is impossible). They have multiple chances to venture onto the highway but must be too scarred from playing too many games o...
