Samsung Galaxy Gear Review

Okay, so about a month ago, I purchased the Samsung Note III (which I will review later) and more recently, I decided to get the Galaxy Gear Smart Watch that goes with my phone.

I've read plenty of reviews and the majority of them seem to be negative, which is nuts! People want better app capability and for it to like...wipe their butts or something...but it's a watch! And it does what it's supposed to do perfectly. Let me tell you people... smart watches are here to stay, and this one isn't remotely as bad as many reviews claim it to be.

Functionality
On a scale of 1 (very poor) to 10  (freaking awesome), I'd give the functionality of this watch a 9.

It does exactly what it needs to do! You can send texts using S Voice, you can make calls (it stores all of your contacts), you can take pictures/video, you can see the weather, you can use the pedometer, and you can receive notifications. And it's uber cool how the watch comes out of sleep mode when you look at it, but then goes back to sleep to conserve battery.

One draw back is that you do have to be in the vicinity of your phone for the watch to be able to make calls, because the watch is using the blue tooth hot spot created by your phone.

Set Up and Battery Life
I would give set up an 8 and battery life a 10.

Set up was a wee bit tricky, but nothing too hard to handle. All you have to do is follow the directions that come with the watch. Hold the back of the charging cradle to the back of your phone to pair the two, and follow the steps that come up on your phone, once your phone prompts you to download the set up app thingy. I think I'm making it sound more complicated than it actually is.

Another plus is that the watch is paired with YOUR phone, so if someone steals YOUR watch, they're s.o.l. because it is set up for your phone.

As far as battery life goes, it's great! It's easy to charge (using the charging cradle) and the charge lasts for a couple of days (which is longer than your average phone). You can easily check the battery status on the watch. All you have to do to charge the watch, is set it's face in the charging cradle, snap it shut, and plug the charging end into the cradle and the other end into the wall.

Cost
I do have to admit that it was rather pricey and I'm sure that cost will go down in the future. But consider it a drawback of being an early adapter. I'm glad I made the decision to buy it, it's freaking awesome and it does what I need it to do.

Responses I've Gotten
"Damn, that watch is so cool!"
"No way!"
"How cool! You're definitely on top of technology."
"Is that thing big enough?"(sarcasm)
"So you drank the Cool-Aid huh?"
"I heard the reviews weren't that great."
"Those watches are totally going to be the next new thing. I bet they'll pretty much replace regular watches."
"Show me how it works."
"How much did it cost?"

  1. So do you wear it daily? Does it look good on a girl? Seems more like something a guy would wear..

  2. I do wear it daily. I'm a girl and I think it looks good on me. It's total coolness outweighs any concern of it being too big. It also comes in other colors...they had a beige (which could be more girly) but I wanted black because it won't show as much dirt.
