My finished plate

Image
I just realized that I never shared with you (my general populous of selective followers) my finished plate! So here it is. I love it.

Today I Built A Canvas

Image
Today I built a canvas. (No its not the one in the photo, that's just a demonstration) I will never look at a canvas the same way again. First, before today, was a very long trip to home depot and an art supply store and over $300 spent. Today in class I had my two pieces of 1x2x42 and two pieces of 1x2x54 and four 3''4'' half rounds cut to match the four pieces of wood. Once in class we glue down the three quarter inch half rounds with the edge facing out along the side of the plywood. Then you have to take 1'' nails and nail the 3''4'' round to the plywood. Have you ever had to nail on a rounded edge? So thirty nails or so later you have all four pieces of wood with the attached 3''4'' inch round (around which you will stretch your canvas so it doesn't stick to the plywood). Then you put some goggles on and go to the saw and cut two 45 degree angles in each piece of wood (making sure that each side matches its opposite).

Painting 101

The air it smells of turpentine and paint Metal skeletons wait in anticipation An odd old bird is painting in the corner The pupils sit in a crescent and wait Despondent and forgotten dried paint Mark surfaces they should have never met I've never greeted the famous oil And hope the meeting I do not spoil Will it find me worthy And take up with me favor That I may greet it now And fully befriend it later? Propped against marked white walls Are works of greatness That call to the eye and yell down the halls There are brushes that wear their history out loud And rolls of cloth possibility staring out of dark holes Masking tape marks valuable real estate I've entered the ranks with a black sharpie pen A club or a calling that has no name That can send you away at the blink of an eye And at shifting whim call you back once again Cold and cruel Or putty in your hands Here there is no school And there are no plans It can be everything you want And nothing all the same Do you control

Waiting

"Give it time..." seems to be the operative response that I've been hearing far too often lately. The other great one is "well...someday." You won't have your diploma for four more months...just give it time. You've been single for what seems like forever? Well...just give it time, you'll find someone someday. Someday you'll have a sucessful first date...someday you'll meet someone great...someday you'll be able to leave the past in the past...someday you'll be living in the city you want to live in...someday you'll have a house of your own...someday you'll get married...someday you'll have kids.. Someday you'll be happy... But for now I just come home to an empty apartment, my thoughts are swimming through job applications and questions I can't answer. And for as much as everyone seems to envy youth, I'm not exactly sure why. I feel like my life is somewhat.....on hold. I feel like I'm waiting for somethin

Ridiculousness

Oh what a week it's been so far... Sunday night I wasn't feeling so good, I spent the evening feeling moderately miserable and looked forward to the next day. The next day I woke up to an apocylyptic scene outside my window. The sky was green and it was raining sideways. I promptly proceeded downstairs where I would wait out a tornado watch/warning in the closet with my cat. There was definitely a point when it was hailing that I listened intently for an impending tornado to come and suck me up. Luckily though, that never transpired! I also woke up that morning with a mosquito bite on my face that had swollen up my chin and lip...so that I looked just weird enough to look like I had a collagen job done wrong. Also, on that same day I was headed into the dentist's office to get two cavities filled. Evidently a cavity on one tooth can spread to the enamel of the tooth next to it (resulting in two cavities)! Who knew? I certainly didn't... The next day I was sitting on th

Ceramics

This is the ceramic piece I am currently working on. Each design takes more than one coat and has to be outlined in the next darkest color. When I originally got this plate, this was not my design plan! I had planned a totally different plate but it didn't work out and I ended up sand-papering it off and before leaving the studio asked for a bunch of shades of blue, not knowing what I was going to do with them. A pattern was the best I could come up with and after some very brief research, this pattern was born (with my logo in the middlle). I hope everyone else will like it as much as I do! It is a ton of work and as you can tell...still not done. Wish me luck! -Liz

2012

Two thousand and twelve...this is the year I graduate college. One more semester, four more months, five more classes, one national advertising competition. This is the year I graduate. That is all. (Shirt design from: http://williamson138.spreadshirt.com/class-of-2012-A6832391) Mae's The Everglow
