The Fallout

***I am so excited to announce that one of my recent poems is being published and advancing to the semi-final round of the National Amateur Poetry Competition! To celebrate, I thought I'd write a poem! Thank you for your continued support!*** Cat got your tongue? Your thoughts came undone You came here for fun But it's not what you found In this bar you can't hide behind a technological glow Your feet want to run But I've seen you, you're bound. We're in the same space Breathing the same air Nervous eyes stare at my wide open face And I issue the dare to say out in the open what you wrote in cyber space I don't think you can You're a child of a man Ill-equipped for reality Unprepared to run into me To summon the things you said And say them aloud And have them cataloged in my head The ground it feels like sinking sand You stare into molten brown eyes That contain neither hurt, anger or lust It's disconcerting what you don&

Lick the Earth

Image
The Same Poem in Many Forms - Form One -  the dirt is done it lays dead cracked and tired beneath the orange red sun that heaves hot breaths onto an earth on fire You drop your broken body onto its breaking knees sinking leather hands onto the gasping ground with flesh burning hot you scrape your fingers across it fingernails filling with brown and the tears your forehead cries shimmer like a spark and fall without a sound the earth drinks the water from your eyes groaning beneath the clear blue skies you are the last in a line of a hundred fathers with a shattering house full of starving daughters and your stick bone horses had no fodder with hollowed brown eyes and bone break bodies they each fell slowly to the ground swallowed by the very land to which your fate is bound (The same poem (or rather, subject of the poem) will be written multiple times in various forms, this is form one)

Pray for your City

Image
Your City Most of us live in towns or cities, and whether we like where we live or not, it's important to be a prayer warrior for your city. So often we get wrapped up in prayers that involve us, or our families, or far off places that have a crushing need to be prayed for. And all of this is great! Pray for your family, pray for places like Egypt and the unreached people groups of Indonesia! It's also important however, to be a prayer warrior for your city! I live in a huge metropolitan city that is filled with people struggling with their faith, their health, their job, their life! Lift up your city in prayer, along with all of it's hospitals, schools, roadways, etc. Prayer is a very powerful thing, and when you lift these requests up to God to protect your city and help it prosper, those prayers don't go unheard! It's time that communities reach out to their city and assist in any way possible. Volunteering your time, money and/or prayers can g

A Song for You

There is a song That pulls at me It's like a pitch black night With no stars In a quiet apartment TV loud and bright Or a long bike ride In the cold of winter When your own breath Tickles your lungs Stings your throat And makes you cough It feels like the inside Of a cardboard box That will carry away The parts of your life That you've gathered On lonely afternoons At quiet bookstores With green carpet

Generation Y Are You Still Talking to Me?

Image
I'm angry. I don't really know what to do with it...so I'm here...blogging about it I guess. It's just so incredible to me. Guys my age. So far what I've experienced is a total lack of morals, a deficit of tact and no hint of maturity. I get hit on. I talk to the guy. I try to get a better picture of who he is while he's busy getting a better picture of how to get me into bed. Which, rest assured, isn't happening. I just don't understand how our generation went to hell in a hand basket. For being in one of the most "religious" and "Christian" states in the country, it sure doesn't feel like it. I mean, I'm not asking for much... +Love God above all else and live a Christ driven life +Have some semblance of tact and a slight sense of humor +Make an attempt to use proper grammar +And don't be an aimless hobo with no plans for the future That's it! That's it. You don't even have to be insanely h
